CHAPTER 11

Stormy weather.

She had continued picking the beautiful white flesh from the fish until her stomach could not handle any more. Jen lay back on her bed. For the first time she felt like she had come to terms with her situation, helped of course by a full stomach. The fish was perhaps the nicest she had ever eaten. Maybe because of the way it came to be her meal.

Nevertheless she knew that her search for food would start all over again tomorrow. She would cross that bridge when she got there.

Jen could hear thunder in the distance but for now she wasn’t worried, even though big storms troubled her.

All that mattered was she had a full stomach and a date to count down to when she could get off this bloody island.

The most important thing she would do when she got home would be to make it up to Donna. After all, inadvertently she was the one whose most important day was about to be ruined by both of her parents.

Jen couldn’t believe how much of a mess this had turned out to be.

The ordeal at the airport was nothing compared to the predicament she was now in, on the island, with Richard.

I hope she forgives me, Jen prayed as she looked to the sky.

While she was saying her prayer, Jen noticed flashes of lightning over the other side of the island and she was certain the thunder was getting louder.

Richard sat with his hip lifted to one side and watched the lightning. The flashes had begun to light up the sky more often, and he could see the clouds extend all the way across the horizon. The wind was starting to bring in some big waves. It wasn’t long before the water was starting to reach the tips of his toes.

He looked over his shoulder towards Jen’s direction, “I hope you don’t get this storm Jen, but I think it’s headed right for us.” There was a genuine concern in his voice.

The rain was light at first and Richard could see the drops hitting the sand as the lightning lit the sky. With every flash of light he could see the storm moving closer to the shore. It wasn’t long before the drops got larger and they started to sting his skin when they hit.

Richard moved to the base of a coconut tree and the wind just kept increasing. The thunder was getting louder and the lightning was now lighting up the entire island.

Shadows were cast from the trees and rocks and looked very ominous, almost like they were evil.

He knew it was time to get away from the storm and the only way to get out of it was to go to the tunnel. He held his arm up above his head to try and cover his face and to help him see because the lightning was blinding. The wind was intensifying and the loose leaves that were scattered all over the ground were starting to be blown everywhere around him.
